Abstract

Background. In recent years, the importance of sustainability as a competi-tive advantage is growing. The sustainable competitiveness of a country means its ability to generate and provide a decent standard of living for all citizens in the global world of com-peting economies and to meet the basic present generations needs while maintaining or growing future national and individual wealth without natural and social capital depleting. The purpose of this study is to analyze threats and opportunities for the sustainable compet-itiveness of Russia in conditions of the global energy revolution aiming at energy saving, reduction of harmful emissions into the environment and renewables using.
Materials and methods. Information basis of this study constituted the materials of the world economic fo-rum, consultancy firm SolAbility, the International renewable energy Agency, Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation, National technology initiative, non-commercial partner-ship "Council of participants of renewable energy market", etc. Used scientific methods of analysis (including content analysis), synthesis, induction, deduction.
Results. Considered the concept of "sustainable competitiveness", its components and the principles of their in-teraction in the model of sustainable competitiveness of SolAbility, Russia's position in the Global Sustainability Competitiveness Index rankings, trends and factors of resource saving intensification in the world economy and the renewables industry development, risks for Russia.
Conclusions. The article proves that the global market leaders course for sustainable competitiveness, including energy self-sufficiency, poses the real threats to the Russian economy long sustainability if the danger will be underestimated and adequate measures will not be realised for the expansion and using of competitive advantages not associated with traditional energy exports.
